Sony Computer Entertainment group CEO Kaz Hirai said Thursday that the upcoming Life with PlayStation will involve bringing real-time, location-based news to connected PS3 owners, with more features coming in the future.
Hirai said during a PlayStation business briefing that that Life with PlayStation will hinge on two axes: place and time.
The Life with PlayStation news channel will display the planet Earth with information on different cities displayed.
Weather forecasts will also be available via Life with PlayStation.
"It's only the PS3 that can provide such a unique experience," Hirai claimed.
"Life with PlayStation proposes a new lifestyle for PS3. As many people turn on their TVs in the morning when they wake up, users can use their PS3 to download worldwide news in real-time or check weather and temperature of travel destinations," he said.
He described today's reveal as just the "primary version" of Life with PlayStation.
"In the future, we'll build a system that can virtually present stored photos or movies according to recorded time and place, allowing users with their friends and family to enjoy them visually in chronological order."
He added that dynamic in-game advertising and charged downloadable content will eventually be integrated into Life with PlayStation.
A release date and further details will emerge at a later date, Hirai said.
