    Question Dvd burning problem

    Help!

I'm fairly PC literate but I haven't got a fuckin clue when it comes to stuff like this

I've never used my laptops DVD re-writer before but when my mate lent me some blag films I thought what the heck and bought a pack of DVD-r to copy them

I've tried using Nero startsmart to copy them...which works well until I have to put the blank DVD in then it says 'illegal disc' and cancels the burning process. And I've also got DVD shrink which like Nero, works until its time for the blank DVD to go in then it wont burn

I had to re install windows xp onto my laptop last year so dont know if that may have something to do with it

whatever it is its pissing me off because me mates hounding me for his DVDs back

any help will be much appreciated

Seems like a daft question - but is your laptop writer deffo a dual format (does - and + )??? Cos if its + only then that would explain the illegal disc. Go to Nero in your All Programs and into the tools folder and choose Nero Info Tool. Then choose your DVD writer from the drop down list and it will tell ye what yer writer supports.

First off, for whatever reason, DVD shrink isn't supported anymore, so there are some discs that it won't touch. so for these DVD fab is the kiddy.
Anyway, it sounds as though yours is reading them ok, just not writing them
Here's a link to the basic guides: Always worth a read mate
    http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides.php

If the disk is encypted, then Nero won't touch it on it's own

DVD shrink should analyse and remove any encryption from the disc and make it region free.
It should automatically ask you for a blank disc and then burn it using Nero.
but this relies on you having installed them in the correct order - i forget which - check the guides.

If nothiing else, you can at least extract each disk into a different folder and give em back to your mate.
Once you find the answer to your problem, then it's a small matter to recode them from DVD shrink.

Do you have any DVD+R's at all???
Might be your writer, as previously posted will only take 1 or the other

Stupid question: your lappy HAS a DVD rewriter? - i only ask cos my mate was pulling his hair out until he realised his was a CD rewriter only
