i used to do press ups etc when i was young (doing judo and fencing) but didn't touch any weights til 16+
might be an old myth, but there may be some truth in it
Disagree totally, done weights for over twenty years and its just stupidity to do it when your body still growing and developing.
My sons taller than me now and growing all the time he currently has osgood shlatters disease in his knee due to him growing so quick, you don't exercise on a body thats not properly formed, you shouldn't need a magazine to tell you that its common sense.
fair enough. each to there own
It all comes down to unrefined/refined carbs mate.
Examples of unrefined carbs would be whole grain wheat, wholemeal bread, potatoes, wholemeal pasta, brown rice, vegetables and many fruits such as bananas and apples.
Refined carbs would be things which contain various refined ingredients such as white flour and white sugar etc. These would include foods such as white bread, white pasta, cakes, biscuits, white rice, crisps, french fries, pastries, cookies, donuts and most fast foods. Also many drinks contain high levels of sugar or syrup which are not good for you.
The latter being, to many refined carbs is a no no.
i presume some are the first lot are complex carbohydrates my fault
edit spenny has just posted but with different wording the refined and unrefined
edit again im getting mixed up... they are to different types of complex carbs

You would be alot better of with porridge oats (ergo the whole 'not made from wheat made from oats instead-abix) , as from research cerals in general contain alot of sugar and other bits which make it not so good for the morning meal. Theres a whole thing on cereals you can read up on under 'glycemic index'
Basically comes down to what it does to your body, in that case your get a blood sugar spike cos of the content.
I get confused, as the adverts make it sound so healthy and good for the heart - then the research you do makes out like its going to kill you etc
Would be nice to here Roach or someone else with better nurtrional expertise thoughts on it.
I have porridge, fruit cocktial or shredded wheat for breakie, varies.
If i know i got a good session planned in the gym, i may have Jam on toast in the morning, as i know i can cain it back off later.
This whole nutriton thing is a minefield of information - with good and bad points everywhere.
I'll definitely have a crack at this as I want to shred a bit...currently just under 15st but due to me having plantar fascia ( bad heel pain) I cant run as I wish.. It hurts my heels within 100yards so running is out of the question... I'll probably take to cycling or swimming.. Also I used to do Thai boxing so bag work will help too ( its great for shredding your sides.. )
Anyways boys, let the fun begin...
The nutrition tips would be good..
I have peanut butter on wholemeal toast in the morning with some fruit..
Not at all.
The key is sourcing it from a decent supplier. I have found MyProtein ok (the only problems ive had have been with ParcelForce cunts delivering it)
Whey Protein is 31 quid for 4.5kgs
at a consumption rate of 90gms a day it lasts 50 days.
Cost per day: £31/50 = £0.62
http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-supp...red)-(refill)/
Creatine Monohydrate £13.43 for 1kg
at a consumption rate of 5g a day this will last 200 days.
Cost per day: £13.43/200 = £0.07
(in reality this is even cheaper than 7p a day as you cycle creatine, say 8 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off)
http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powd...e-monohydrate/
L-Glutamine £19.42 for 1kg
at a consumption rate of 15g per day 1kg lasts over 66 days
Cost per day: £19.42/66 = £0.29
http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powd...s/l-glutamine/
So the cost is extremely low, the essential supplements (imo above) cost £1.61 per day.
What you will find is that the 'other' suppliers and high street suppliers are plain and simply ripping you off.
Also check the content of your product, i was interested to find aspartame in a flavoured protein powder from a high street store (check out wikipedia if you dont know about what the concerns are over its use). The stuff i buy is all top quality.
Hope this helps
