Can anyone help...if I install the latest autoupdates my internet ceases to work!
Restoring to a earlier point makes it OK again....I am currently installing the updates one at a time to try and find the culprit...any ideas?

lol, i did exactly the same, then i did a websearch on my win2k3 machine for the solution after the update auto updated againWindows update leads to ZoneAlarm web black-out
Hundreds of thousands of people who use the ZoneAlarm firewall to protect their PC have been locked out of the internet by Microsoft's latest round of software updates.
Zonelabs posted this advice: "Sudden loss of internet access: Microsoft Update KB951748 is known to cause loss of internet access for ZoneAlarm users. We recommend that users uninstall KB951748 using "Add or Remove Programs" until the issue is resolved."

Im gonna take a guess and say that you are using zone alarm ? turn the security filter down to moderate then download the new version of zone alarm and get it to update the old version ,after Installation you can set zone alarm back to your normal protection level
lol, went through the same shite yesterday when I updated.
I'd had enough of Zone alarm anyway with it keeping on asking me if the same apps were OK. Every time the xbox was turned on it wanted WMplayer to be authorised again. Switched to Comodo and have to say it's a lot slicker and less resource hungry
This is the culprit here KB951748
To unistall the update..... go to Add or Remove Programs, make sure that the box next to "Show updates" is checked; this is an option which you will find at the very top of that screen. Then scroll down to 'uninstall, KB951748' you should see it listed as part of an indented list under "Windows XP - Software Updates". It will probably be towards the bottom of that indented list.
Thanks guys!

My brother's just phoned me, he's had no internet all day. Amazingly I already found the instructions to uninstall that KB before I read this thread but it hasn't helped him.
I told him to ditch his shitty ISP (BT)!
