antivirus 2009 how to remove

Might be helpful if you could tell us which Antivirus it is. i.e. Norton, Mcafee, AVG ?

If its norton, then goto their website and you can download an "uninstall program". this removes all the files and registry details

He's got antivirus 2009. It's a malicious little fucker and not easy to get rid of.

The only way I know is to download Smitfraudfix from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/resources/link243.html and unpack it to your desktop. Then run the program from "smitfraudfix.bat" and choose "Item 4, Update" from the menu. Then close Smitfraudfix.
Reboot the PC into safe mode, and run smitfraudfix again, this time choosing Item "2, Fix"
When It's completed reboot and install Superantispyware,from http://downloads2.superantispyware.c...ntiSpyware.exe update it and run a FULL scan.
Hopefully this will sort it for you, if not you may need to repeat a couple of times.

I'd lay money you won't fix it, EVERY person I know with Smitfraud or a variant (including me) wasted weeks trawling for fixes and tried them all just to have it reappear. The fix?? format/reinstall.

I fixed 2 vista computers with this last week,rename the file & folder in safe mode then system restore, then a windows update malicious software removal tool finished the job..
No phone calls to say it's back yet

Don't count those chickens yet, I hope you're right but mine took as long as 3 weeks to return and that's with the PC on most of the day every day.

Those who have a clue can get rid of this worm np - those who can't well erm, don't have a clue.

Fair comment. Nowt better than good referrals from satisfied customers, beats any kind of advertising.
And like you say, if PC world are sending folks, they must know the job will get done right.

I have played a bit with Ubuntu, Debian and slax, but don't really have the time to piss about too much. We have never met, although I have been to Neo a few times.
