    obvious but check the fuse...

also the insert part of the ciggy lighters often fuck up so the holder may still work

some companys have also been known to disconnect em..

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

Take out the lighter, the metal housing is held into the green plastic surround using mainly pressure fit but has a couple of little tabs that help it hold in place.
Have a look into the socket and work out where the metal tabs are holding it and lightly bend them inwards, then you need to pry the housing through the green surround.
Don't prise between the dash and the green bit, it won't work, between the green bit and the metal housing will do fine, tight bastards though so persevere.

Once its out you can disconnect it and test the wiring for a live and earth, if the wirings good then pm me and I will post you out a cig lighter and housing gratis.
If not, and you are sure the fuses are ok, can grab a live off the heater, bobbing in an inline fuse just in case.
Drugs are only a problem to people who can't afford them.

Have you tried shoogling it around? I took my ipod charger/itrip into my mates car the other day and it took me ages to get power through it, didn't know why it wouldn't work, thought it was broken but I just had to pull it towards me a bit..

Urbsy has the right idea though.

really really obvious but on a lot of cars the cig lighter will be on a switched feed so it goes off when the car is off

you tried it with the ignition/engine on?
