Always change the filter when doing the oil.

I use semi-synthetic on my Seat TDI... But I change it every 10K.

just get the castrol gtx magnatec (diesel). put a tub under sump, take out sump plug and let the oil drain out, when it's draining remove your oil filter (careful as oil will still be in this and will spill out).

wipe around threads on engine block with a clean cloth, dip finger in new oil and rub on rubber sealant on new filter, refit filter using tool not too tight though but tight enough so it doesnt come loose when running, refit sumplug, make sure van is on level ground and pour in new oil remembering to keep checking and DONT put in too much oil so it goes over the max mark on dipstick as this is just as bad as too little oil
