    Wii Wii Sound

Hi all. Just been out and got hold of a new Wii. Have just plugged it in using the three pin plugs into the side of the telly and was wondering if there is a better way of doing this?

I have a 5.1 DVD player, would the 5.1 sound work if I stuck it through that using the three plugs?

I also note there is a scart connector that you can plug the three coloured pins into, would that be better and finally, can you get a HDMI lead for it!!!!?

    Cheers.

There sure is, go buy yourself the component cable (obviously your TV will need to be able to accept component video)

Not that I've seen in the 30 seconds it took me to peruse the Game website

Thanks mate. After some fiddling about I have put the two audio leads through the dvd player and it sounds fine. Put the yellow one into the telly and it works ok.

I was wondering if it could be better really.

    Cheers.

It will do Dolby Digital Surround II but that's it really. To be honest I can't think of a game that would utilise it really (5.1). I've not had a problem with the sound, seems fine for what it does and is

As Goldberg states the Wii only supports up to Dolby PL 2 which doesn't need an optical connection as its only discrete rear sound. I don't really notice though as there's usually a group of us when playing on the Wii - or my missus has it plugged into the 26" LCD for Wii Fit in the bedroom.

I am, however, using the component cable which give you 480p and this does look better than over the standard composite video connection.

Quick tip - if you have it set on 480p & play a Gamecube game the video sets back to 60HZ and you have to set it back to 480P. Rubbish really.

    Stupid Re: Wii Sound

Well, I went to Game here in town and bought a component lead for £12.99.

Got it home and the end bit where the leads come out of the main lead (if you get what I mean,) the audio leads won't reach down below to my surround system!

I have them all plugged into the telly at the moment nothing I can do about it really but if anyone wants one I will sell it for a tenner. I went on my motorbike so binned the box it came in so it would fit in the inside pocket of my leathers.

Anyhow, when I get to the setup menu now I get a choice of three screen resolutions whereas before I only got two options.

I have 50Hz (576i) - 60Hz (480i) and the new option EDTV/HDTV (480p). Now I have no idea what it all means so what one is the best for me at the moment?

    Thanks.

    You want the HDTV option.

As for the Audio, just get an extender from maplins or similar. I use an amplifier that also acts as a switcher for the Audio so no issues for me.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...=9664&doy=26m8 as an example (you will need 2)

Or this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3M-TWIN-2-RCA-...d=p3286.c0.m14 if you can wait for delivery.
