If you haven't done one before, send it to ninty mate... there a total nightmare to fit and you might need to buy the flat cable that connects the top screen, cost me about £45 to do it myself, it had been tinkered with so didn't want to send it away

I have changed the case on an old DS (not lite), it was quite fiddly but not hard.

I have also used Nintendo to repair DS lites but this was before they started asking for proof of purchase. I just sent a letter saying it was a gift and it was less than 12 months old. Now they ask for a receipt. They are pretty good though and usually only takes about a week.

So long as you have the actual metal hinge barrel, just do it yourself.

I did one not too long ago, and although being a pain and quite fiddly it wasn't too bad. I posted the dismantle guide on here (with pics) so if you follow that you'll be fine.

You can get cases cheap too from DealExtreme. The quality of ANY replacement case is not the best and you may fine some bits either don't fit or don't "feel" the way they did, so IMO re-cycle as many of your original bits as you can.

If your going to do a shell replacement and havent done one before make sure you take note of where the screws go and be careful not to lose the L & R springs . The Top ribbon cable is simple before you try to coil it through make sure you remove the mic and the wireless and speakers keep the top screen out of the shell while you are putting the ribbon cable through this makes it alot easier to do . Take your time and you should be fine
