    Default 7 Years Since 9/11

Seven years since -- looking back and forward on 9/11

Tomorrow marks a somber anniversary, seven years since the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people from 90 different countries were killed that day, in New York City, at the Pentagon in Virginia, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. While the damaged Pentagon has been rebuilt, plans are still underway for a memorial in Pennsylvania, and construction has only recently gotten underway on the memorial at Ground Zero, the former site of the World Trade Center in New York City. On that same site, the new Freedom Tower has been under construction since 2006, and will hopefully be completed by 2012, reaching 1,776 feet above Manhattan's skyline. Here is a brief look back, several views from today, and a peek into the future of these sites. (21 photos total)

Forgive me for sounding like a cunt, but the memory of all those who perished on 9/11 has been irrepairably sullied by the actions of the US and British governments since then. Hundreds of thousands of Afghanis and Iraqis have paid the blood price for 9/11. When I see rubble and bodies it doesn't matter to me whether they were Americans or Muslims, they're still the same innocent victims murdered by the same heartless bastards.

Many of the families of the 9/11 victims begged their government to not take revenge, waving banners "Not in my name". Did anyone care or listen to them.. so fuck Bush, the Republicans, Democrats and anyone else weeping crocodile tears after having so outrageously disrespected the memories of the dead.

u mean like in the pilot episode of the lone gunmen first aired march 2001,

The pilot program, which first aired on March 4, 2001, concerned a government plot to crash an airplane into the World Trade Center and make it appear as a terrorist plot in order to justify more defense spending.

Imagine for a small second that the 9/11 attacks were indeed not staged but carried out maliciously...what action would you take given the power afforded and inherent (speculated) threat against your fellow countrymen?

All so easy to be far left in an armchair.

I'm with Al Murray here: The Brits are only good at helping America in the War on Terror cos the Americans funded the Provisional IRA for 30 years....

Whilst the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York was a terrible, terrible occurance and a horrible way to die for many thousands, the way America acts as a victim and asks the world to feel sorry for it beggars belief and belittles the memories of the victims IMO.
    IT people slash forward.

Also, lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part....

Yea and making a 'freedom tower' is ridiculously stupid. It's dangerous and carries on showing what the terrorists thought all along, that the american's live in their own world, doing what they want and seeing it through the rose tinted glasses of 'freedom'.

Yeah they should be calling it miracle tower.

Seeing as it's a miracle that they managed to find the passports of the 'hi-jackers' when pretty much everything else got vaporised! Even more so when one of the 'hi-jackers' was proved to be alive and well.

The horrors of 9/11 are horrific, and many innocent people died, at the hand of who though?

The on-going effects of 9/11 in my opinion are even worse, hundreds of thousands of people have died in the name of the war on terror.
