Ramadan

Muslim faithful throughout the world are currently observing the holy month of Ramadan. Observant Muslims participate in fasting (sawm), one of the five pillars of their faith, this entire Lunar month (this year it extends from September 1st to the 30th). Eating, drinking, smoking and sexual activity is prohibited from dawn until sunset, when the fast is broken with the evening meal called Iftar. Local customs define varying traditions, including differing types of food used to break the daily fast. The fasting is meant to teach a person patience, humility and sacrifice, to set aside time to ask forgiveness, practice self-restraint, and pray for guidance in the future. (35 photos total)

Ramadan is the fourth pillar of Islam at this time Muslims shall fast from sunrise to sunset during this month. They dont go the whole month with no food! only between sun up and sun down. The end of ramadan is a three-day celebration where they stuff themselves stupid like a fat kid who got locked in the sweet shop after closing time!

i have been speaking to a few guys who have been fasting for ramadan. i just glad that i dont have to do it. what makes it worse is the perpare all there for on an empty stomach and cant taste there food or nothing

yep, cant taste it, however a woman who is married to a violent husband can taste the food while preparing it and it will not affect her fast.

pregnant women do not have to fast and i think diabetics are exempt as well

Those exempt from fasting include the mad, the young, the ill, travellers, menstruating women or postnatal periods, the elderly, the pregnant and breast-feeding women.

Great post mate, very informative.

I do feel sorry for Muslims in non-Islamic countries though, it must be much harder to fast when people around you are totally ignorant of Ramadan, eating and drinking in front of you.

Also in predominantly Islamic Countries the whole day is geared around Ramadan, i.e. having a meal and going to sleep just before sunrise, sleeping till late in the afternoon.
