I'm a fan of post pro if the image looks better, my comment wasn't a criticism, more of pointing out that unfortunately you can't achieve shots like a lot of those with no processing.

Some stunning shots there. Brian Valentine is a regular on dgrin.com and one of the mentors as such there.

His dew drop refraction shots are created by precise positioning of the subjects and also by focus stacking (taking multiple shots at different focal points and then merging them all together).

Awesome pictures, truly awesome. They've inspired me to splash out on a new DSLR lol, can a Canon EOS 450 do anything close to this with the standard lense?

    Hi Chilliman.

The EOS 450D is most definitely capable of producing such shots and you can get relatively close with the standard lens however in order to get the real in your face close ups, the standard 18-55 Kit lens will not cut it.

You would have to consider splashing out on something like a Canon 100mm Macro lens (£300+) or a Sigma 105mm EX DG Macro lens (£220) and probably some extension tubes.

Both are lenses designed for this type of photography.
