This has been around for al ong time, problem is I can't just get 360 HD housings for any less than £15. I find 20GB ample for the time being until we get fast internet to dl content so I will wait but this is a really cheap way of doing it.

I think you can do 320GB as well for a bit more.

I have a 20gb in housing that isn't working, I bougt a 120Gb to replace it. Is it siply a case of swapping out the drives? I thought there was a little more to it than that.
    Thanks

What drive did you buy, If you are following the guide in my first post it needs to be a specific drive and you need to flash it with different firmware.

sorry didn;t make that clear, I bought another 120Gb xbox 360 Drive so I have a spare, not working 20Gb 360 in the casing plus I also have the data transfer cable. At the time of it failing I tried to find out if I could just replace the drive, I guess things have moved on a bit since then.

That looks starightforward (I've seen it before) but my main question is what happens to game saves & downloaded game content..? The instructions just look like you change the drive firmware, no transfer of other stuff.

Yeah it's effectively a new drive and you'll need to download all your content again from XBL

I'm alright with that mate as long as I don't need to pay again. I guess game saves would need to be put on a memory card (another rip of btw)

There is a M$ migration kit which you can use to transfer shizz from your old 20GB to their 120GB. Not sure if it is still free but plenty on ebay or userso n here will probaly have one.

Difference is though the old drive won't be in an enclosure.

No you cant do bigger than 120GB because you need the FW file from an official M$ 120GB HDD (file "hddss.bin" which can be downloaded) to make the drive work.

The FW will allow you to fit any drive up to 120GB, but nothing more.

Can it be detected online as a mod (changed drive). Resulting in a ban

Not sure, but I dont think, so, esp if you use a 120GB HDD cos then they'll just think you went out and bought one. If you use an 80GB HDD you might get cought tho!

Think I made one of these a long time ago and then sold it to Ant3b (I Think) when I flogged my 'offline' console (which I think is still online??)

Anyhow, I thought there was a chance you could get banned from live with one of these, hence why I got shot of mine? I got the housing off ebay at the time for £10 and it was simple to do. My Dell laptop is Sata so I just swapped the drives and did what I needed to do that way, really simple.

So as anyone been banned due to a an unofficial hdd upgrade?

I've got my machine back and stuck two games on my 20gb hdd and I have no room left.

Oh and has anyone spotted the drive any cheaper? Ebuyer has boosted their price a bit.

I dont think you can get banned as your using an official "hddss.bin" file to modify the drive.

I havn't heard of anyone being banned, I'm not banned and I have been using my hacked 120GB HDD. Seeing as the only advantage it offers is it's cheaper I don't see why they would ban you, if they did it would be a bit harsh. A modded console fair enough because it bypasses copyright.

bleh the cunts have risen in price AGAIN! £45-ish now on average, then there's postage fees.... Christ, wonder if it's due to the big increase in sales recently? Dunno, but annoyed ;(
