    Default .DAT File Problem.

Basically I got sent an e-mail with an attachment in .DAT

Apparantly this is what the Corel Programs use or something. :S

Anyway MS stuff won't open it. Neither will wordpad/notepad.

Googled some software, havne't come up with anything.

    Help?

try rename it .txt and then take a look at what it looks like in that... if its code then might be able to view it with just a text editor

Na that looks like you won't be able to read it unless its in the program that it has been written in
Who sent the email? cant you just ask them what its written in?

Could be for just about anything really, loads of progs use .dat file extensions.

Get the sender to resend, and not embed documents but attach them.

I bet they are trying to send a word document or excel spreadsheet and they have clicked - File - Send To - Mail Recipient

We get it all the time here at work, and 9 times out of 10 that is what has happened.
