Hi
A customer of mine has two of these Renault Scenic's with a dash which is completely dead. Anyone ever seen this problem before? It is supposed to be a known problem although I have to admit to never having seen it before.
Thanks

Yep seen quite a few like this and have also been told its a known prob, stripped one down and the transformers for the flouresent display where black as hell, apperently they need dealer progin if you fit new or used clusters
Mike
Im not bitter, Im a red
Thanks Mike, have attempted to repair one of these?
you do nt need the dealer to reprog these! i ve done loads nd you can either just swap the eeprom from the old to the new/used dash and it will save you having to get the mileage done! otherwsie you can just it second hand and if the customer is happy with the mileage on the cluster then just leave!
good luck!
Does anyone have powerups for benching this cluster?
Thanks
Hi,
you guys seem quite knowledgeable regarding these Renault instrument clusters (Clocks) so I hope it's ok to ask you about a problem I have with the clocks on my 2001 Laguna 1.9 DCi
When the ignition is switched on all the lights start to flash on & off....The computer screen on the speedo flashes but with no display characters showing.....the fuel gauge pulses up & down.
The speedo & rev counter needles both twitch in time with the movement of the fuel gauge.
I have made a small video showing the fault as it happens...please take a look.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-iUKuIEcoDw
The fault is intermittent & can last for anything from 20 seconds to a couple of minutes before the clocks go back to normal operation.
The fault seems to be temperature related...the colder the temp the longer the fault seems to persists before normal operation of the clocks.
This fault has just started to happen...but I did noticed a few weeks ago that the trip counter & all the other computer settings had reset back to zero without me touching anything...like they had lost their memory.
Has anyone seen a fault like this before?
Any advice or pointers appreciated.
Cheers.
there is a problem on these clusters aswell especially 2001 cars but mainly petrol cars! again you can fit second hand with out any problems!
i would only ask you to check what the voltage is to the battery when he car is running as i have a few cars lately with the alternator spiking up to 18 volts and this is causing the dashes to go down!( big problem on merc s classes) you can check and every thing might be fine but you new dash goes down after a short while i would get your alternator overhaulded!
many thanks and gud luck
Hi,
Thanks for the advice
I checked that the battery was charging ok when this fault first started to happen & the voltage seemed to be a steady 14.4 volts with the engine running.
I have enquired about having the cluster repaired & as you say it's a very common problem....the price for a repair is around the £150 mark
I was thinking of trying to find a 2nd hand cluster & fit that....maybe swap the eeprom over to keep the mileage correct on the car as it has quite low mileage....but that means having to pull the "New" cluster apart.
I noticed today that the mileage has jumped up buy approx 400 miles overnight !....just my luck a car that clocks its self the wrong way ....I'll have to get it sorted one way or the other before its been to the Moon & back !
If I got hold of a 2nd hand set of clocks is it easy to find someone with the right equipment to correct the mileage on them & what sort of price is reasonable for this?
Cheers.
Hi, Ive heard you can repair these dashs with some resoldering of dry joint/joints. Is this true and if so can anyone help with locating (pictures or some pointers) the joints pls? Thanks!
Laguna 2001 on dash don't have eeprom it is 908 micro on early one and 9s12 micro on 2005 on
Yes that's spot on the micro in my clocks is the 908.
After a bit of research the fault is caused because the 908 micro doesn't like to start if the ambient temperature is low. If the micro is at room temp the problem doesn't happen. I have read that if you have a programmer & you dump the micro (at room temp) then reprogramme the dump back to it, it can sort it out....
Anyone got a programmer & the knowledge to do this who fancies doing me a favour?
Cheers.

Hi ..
if you ment senic 2004 and above this cluster totally dead it's floresent light..
you can repaire it by check fuse 6.5AM near of gray plug coz you will find it burned
and must replace it.
also should desolder one side of screen to be able to see mos-fet IRF3710 almost will find it shorted also .
and need also to resolder on resistor array 1R0 near of greay plug also.
will works 300% .
i'd reparied almost 30 cluster with this manner
but also i find 5 cluster's of this 30 needed to resolder resistor array only is fuse and mos-fet good and not damaged
i wish this help you
regards
similar prob on mines 2001 dci. i took few front fuses out and now dash mileage is in km/h , also the fule gauge is not calibrated anymore
anyone know of a fix ???
