Sony x1

Right i'm currently on o2 and due for my upgrade, i've got a first gen iphone at the moment and am looking at getting the Sony X1 (http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1/).

Considered an n96 but o2 won't support the cost of the handset so aren't making them available directly (and after reading the threads on here my n95 is better )

Has anyone had any experience with the X1? Its a windows mobile platform, available from o2 direct on the 8th Oct, and it's the only phone they are offering that appeals to me in anyway.

I dunno mate but the X1 isnt o the coming soon list of phones on the o2 website, i know voda are due to release it this week and they were meant to be first network releasing it in the UK. I think now it will be out on voda on 17/10 unless it gets put back again, but like i said i couldnt see it on the o2 site.

found out it's available from the 13th oct, they have the dummy phone in store, I couldn't see it online either which is pretty odd!

The X1 is made by HTC for Sony so expect it to be very similar to the Touch Pro and a slightly upgraded version of the TyTn II.

The only review i've read is on Modaco and they seem to think that the keyboard is a bit crap compared to the HTC branded phones.

I'm personally waiting for the HTC Touch HD which is released at the end of the month, has a much bigger screen and an 800x480 screen resolution although you don't get the qwerty keyboard.

I ordered last night online 24th oct and it's being packaged for delivery now.. I will report once I've got it.. I always think it's best to order online so you have longer to back it if it turns out to be a piece of crap.. Oh sorry it was with Voda and the clincher for me was when i found I could tether it as a modem and am getting unlimited data.
The G1 and Iphone still need to catch up with features like that..

Is this on o2 mate? I'm still being told that they have no idea when they are going to get them.

Could have one on o2 via the carphone warehouse but i'm waiting for it to come into the store so i can get 30% off line rental through my friend...... looks like i'll be waiting a while.

nah i am on voda, they were the original ones who were meant to get it exclusively first on their network then it was gonna come out on o2 and orange so they concentrated on the blackberry storm cuz that is exclusive to them until the new year, so this kept getting delayed until it went on general release to voda, o2 and orange. but tomorrow i hope i get it

Bad news.. now they are saying.. "unexpected heavy demand blah blah.... 7 to 10 days blah blah.."
If another network comes up with a comparable deal and have it in stock I might cancel this one and go there.. Fact is this might be the case with other providers too.. heavy demand.

I wish o2 would hurry up and get this into their shops...... glad you managed to get yours, been waiting ages for mine.

Gald your recommending it too.... if you do come across any annoyances or loves let me know, no matter how small they may seem, like to get a good picture of these things

I actually thought 522 wasn't a bad price for a top end phone sim free, considering most networks claim it's not "out".

Not that I would buy any phone for that money! Just I remember phones being a lot more sim free in the past...

HTC Touch HD + T-Mobile Combi 30 + Web N Walk ..£166 for the phone, £35 p/month on 12 month contract..sounds good to me
