Attention Virgin and BSkyB end channel row

Virgin and BSkyB end channel row

The agreement will see Sky's basic channels return to Virgin Media

Television providers BSkyB and Virgin Media have reached an agreement on a long-running row over channel charges.
The deal will see Sky's basic channels return to Virgin's cable service and Virgin's channels stay on Sky.
Last year, Sky pulled its main channels from Virgin's cable TV service in a row over payment, leaving viewers unable to watch programmes such as Lost and 24.
Both companies said they had agreed to end all High Court proceedings against each other.
The two firms have reached a deal which will see fixed annual payments for the channels, plus performance related bonuses.
    Long-running row
Sky's basic channels - including Sky1, Sky News and Sky Sports News - will return to Virgin Media on November 13 under a contract running to June 2011.
Under a second deal, the Virgin basic channels such as Living and Bravo will continue on Sky.
The two companies fell out last year over the price that each would pay to carry each other's channels.
Relations were already sour after BSkyB bought a stake in ITV in 2006. Many saw the move as a way to block a Virgin takeover of ITV.
BSkyB was later told by the Competition Commission to reduce its stake in ITV because of competition concerns.

Wahey - Sky Sports News, you have come back to me after a torrid affair with another lover...... Happy Days!!!

Sky One I didn`t really miss as I download and watch episodes anyway.
How can you say its better to watch on TV than to download, you get loads of adverts and I doubt it`ll be HD!!
The eps I get are advert free and usually 720p.

Sky have most of the HD on an exclusive contract... but it's ending soon... noticed how they are starting to flog the HD service to death and practically giving away HD boxes ??

I'd give it 6 months for ITV & C4... 12 for the rest.

You really think that Sky are going to put their HD movie channels onto Virgin in the near future?

A little OT this, but with the HD stuff, I`m on Virgin and as has been said Sky have most of it exclusive, but you can grab the HD eps of Lost, Dexter etc from the ng`s.

However, why does nobody cap the HD Football?
I am yet to watch footy in HD, they all seem capped in SD.

Probably not... but Discovery, National Geographic, FX, Eurosport etc. definately.

I imagine it will take some kind of legislation change similar to what's in place for Sky Sport & movies now to get them to release the HD Sport & Movies.

Until they drop the £10/ month HD surcharge for Sky customers it'll never happen IMO.
