I was perusing the www, seeing what it had to offer, when I was struck by a virus, the system tray now has the windows shield update icon with baloons the keep popping up to tell me that my system may be at risk. If I click on it, then it takes me to http://powerfullantivirusscan.com/20...hp?nu=77100106
which is some pc scanner thingy, and my avg app offers me the chance to put something into the virus vault.
I've ad awared it, but its still there, any suggestions??

and get nod32 antivirus on your machine instead of avg

I've always found Trend Micro's online scanner HouseCall (free for home users) very good for removing virus / spyware when people I know have picked up annoying pop up style messages in Windows. Takes a while for their scanner to fully scan your system but it will even point out security vulnerabilities in MS products like office and will give you url for the MS secuirty patch etc.

Look for HOME, FREE TOOLS and HouseCall to use their scanning software.
