Xbox 360 Is there a way to flash a benq drive off a Hitachi machine without the key?

    Hi guys

After someone pointed out to me, that if the benq drive i had was a refurb and was an old hitachi drive i would need the key off the old drive.

    Now a few questions

    1) what happens if i cannot find the key
    2) if i do manage to find it how do i go about flashing and adding that

    Cheers lads

    1) you need the key. else your console will not recognize it.
    2) take a look at http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/details/id=61.html .. everything explained.

As I understand it you have a Benq refurb drive but you haven't got the original Hitachi drive?

If you have the original drive you will need to read the firmware, extract the key and then insert the key in the ixtreme 1.4 firmware then write that firmware on the Benq.

    Wanna sell the Benq?

No you'll need to extract the key from the hitachi or your xbox is playing nothing but films !
then when you get the key you'll have to spoof your benq as a hitachi and insert the key...

Have a look at these tutorials

The xbox was sent off to M$ as it was ROD and came back with the Benq drive in. The Hitachi was done 18 months or so ago so need to double check if the key is still here.

    That's what I thought too.

If you got the drive as a refurb from MS the benq will be paired to the board already. All you need to do is follow that guide I sent you.

Right sorry for the headache guys heres the history

    1) Bought xbox came with Hitachi drive
    2) Flashed xbox
    3) 15 months later i get ROD
    4) Send it off to M$ and it comes back fixed with a new Benq drive

    There was only 1 xbox

Good news that i wont need the key, but i have a small issue where can i find my port number for my sata card (which is the one everyone bought from ebay 12 months ago)

Ahh, now I got the picture
To get your sata port in vista click start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information then go to components and look for your sata card in scsi or ide (cant remember off the top of me head)

Could well be, my port number is C8A0

Just make sure when you go to flash you have unplugged all other sata devices otherwise you could be flashing your hard disk

Ok just done the USB stick which i used USB disk storage and win98boot i then went to check the usb drive and there is nothing on it. Is this correct or should there be some files on it?

Also can i just double check

    This is to read it

    DosFlash r (port #) 1 a0 1 4 c:\orig.bin 0

    This is to erase it

    C:\>DosFlash e (port #) 1 a0 1 4 D8 0

    This is to write it

    C:\>DosFlash w (port #) 1 a0 1 4 a:\ix14.bin 0
