I have an old 360 that is banned from live... I want to use it to play divx, but the dash is too old so it doesnt support it... anyone know if I can get the update onto a disc and apply it that way to get divx support?

You'll need to connect to live to get the divx update...sadly you're screwed.

dont think it is m8 as I need to wait until the 19th to update mine, but I am trying to play mp4 files.
maybe some divx work but mp4 dont and needs live for an update.
Sadly u are screwed m8 for what I know as I tried to find a way to update mine when it asked for the update but live is the only.

This new update needs a codec update from Live, thus if you are banned, you will not be able to play divx. Especially if the console was banned in MAy 2007.

No way of installing codecs. Best thing you can use at the moment is a transcoding programme like TVersity.

what if your 360 has the divx codec and then gets banned, does it still keep the codec? and is this codec stored on the hard drive?
can i use my divx codec'ed hard drive on another 360 to watch divx

The divx codec only works offline if you downloaded it on that console.

And if you moved your HDD from one console to another you might have the problem I have, unbanned console, EVERY time I want to play xvid I have to connect to live to download the licence again. Rather annoying... especially if you take it round a mates to use their HDTV :@
