laptop has no power

Hey guys...I turned my laptop on (toshiba A120) Sunday night and there was an almighty bang. the power supply is frazzled and makes a noise when shaken.i bought a new power supply today and no lights come on. the local lappy repair place say its most likely the motherboard, but want 60quid to look. is there any way i can find out if it is the main board (i found new board for 100, just don't want to spend the money if its not the trouble)

this is causing loads of grief, thnx for reading...any help great fully received :-)

time to call the home insurance people i think...

£100 for a board then having to fit it and hoping everything else is ok is too much of a gamble in my opinion....

Sounds bad M8, but i know its a new power supply,so make sure it actualy works before spending any more dosh.it might have been the supply that blew, or the board that blew the supply.Most likely needs a motherboard tho.

cheers guys...the power supply was checked in a working lappy and its fine. gonna have to sleep on it and decide if its worth spending the money
