    Info Freeview reception in house

    Ok guys help needed here

Just bought a new house and need to get the kids bedrooms rigged up with freeview.

I have 3 Tv points in house Lounge, kitchen and my bedroom on top floor(town house)

The kids bedrooms are on the first floor with no TV points.

I bought a cheap stand alone aerial but as expected the recption was poor and couldnt get free view to work

Dont really want to put loads of wires on the outside of the house really as looks a bit naff.

Can anyone recommend a cheapish stand alone aerial that may do the job for me or another soloution to hep with the TV reception

    thanks in advance

As its a brand new house the builders stated I would need planning permission from them at the cost of £100 to errect any more aerials buhahahah.

You could try a TV sender, really though I think the best idea would be to break out the drill.

I'd think about putting a splitter and a booster in the loft and then you can run cables into the kids rooms then or a splitter on the one in your room and then run a cable through the floor to their rooms?

If wires are not what you want. Maybe use a tv sender like mule mentioned. But buy decent ones if you go down this road.. i would suspect the signal would be better than cheap nasty ones.. But do not quote me on this.

    Cheers for the advice guys...

No one mentioned the stand alone aerials which you can just plug in and wiggle the antenna's around till you get picture.

Are these any good? its just to run free view really

They don't work round our way for Freeview and are a bit flakey even with the old analogue signal. I know when the switch over happens the signal in your area gets boosted so they might be OK then but at the moment I wouldn't recommend one for Freeview.

You need a wideband ariel or you wont be able to get all the channels

Otherwise the reception spectrum isnt large enough (or "wide" enough) to recieve the ones on the fringe and outside the fringe of a standard normal ariel.

Do you just need freeview to the kids bedrooms or throughout the property ?

You can get a digital ariel kit (ariel, loft mount and bracket, signal booster, digital coax) for about £25 +vat (which even includes a signal booster). That should be fine for just the 2 points. Any more and you will need some sort of distribution amp.

Thanks for the advice mate...Its a difficult one as its a brand new house and dont really wanna start drilling and having wires all over the place.
I think there is already some sort of TV booster in the small loft space I have right now..its just getting the wires down to their floor.

I think ill get someone out to have a look and see whats the best way to get around it

    thanks to all who replied
