    Default Repairing a USB slot

I accidentally tripped over my laptop cable and my laptop fell off the desk. I noticed a small black plastic tab on the floor the following day and realised it's from one of my usb slots. I've heard conflicting reports about my local pc repair store and whether they overchare or not.

Roughly how much am I looking at getting this repaired?

    How goods your soldering?

    Replacement ports are very cheap.

Where do I buy one from mate? On the subject of soldering, are there different sizes of soldering irons? The one I've got seems rather large for finicky jobs like this. I also need one to repair a scart socket on my telly.

they come in all shapes and sizes mate. some of mine are not much bigger than pins on the end. A general iron for what you want would probably have about a 2mm tip on it.

Yeah all USB ports I've fitted have the exact same layout ... I normally pick up the ports from a local store in Glasgow though along with some AC jacks (To repair Dell motherboards).

If you've got another working usb port you could always buy a usb hub and save the time, effort, and risk of doing further damage.
