vga monitors for ps3

Having discovered on xmas day (doh!) that my previously trysty dell tft wouldnt work with ps3 (wont sync down low enough) I'm on the lookout for something cheap and cheerful to use for hidef gaming until I convince the missus we need a new main telly.

I've been trawling through webshops and comments to see if I can find stuff that works with ps3 ok as it's a bit of a mine field. The display needs to be dvi-d and if possible hdcp compliant although a display having these 2 does not guarantee compatibility. I can also use a vga display as I have a HDfury box BUT it still needs to sync to the ps3 signal AND down low enough. (i think it's 1280 x 720 @ 50Hz)

Im looking at spending no more than about £100 as it's only a stop-gap and will then go on to be my pc monitor. So far this is the favourite...

anyway what i'm asking for is, do any of you use a computer monitor for ps3 at the moment ? how well does it work and what model/price ?

Im looking somewhere around 20 - 22" and as mentioned around 100 all in.

It's ones that people know work with ps3 im after and not just suggestions.

i dont want to pay more than about 120 all in, its not going to be used much after we get our new telly (probably march)

i could only find that same samsung.its a good price.the cheapest of the most commen brands ,i couldnt say if it would do the trick
sorry but 100 quid will not get you much in 20 or 22 inch
you will be pushed to get any thing with the spec to use with a ps3 i think

i do like the look of the viewsonic, with hdmi and full 1080p that'll certainly work. There are loads around the 100 - 120 mark that will work but its a bit hit and miss which work and which dont which is why I was looking for specific recommendations from people that have actually tried them.

I will see if I can stretch to the viewsonic tho as that looks to tick all the boxes - any other pointers gratefully received. The viewsonic is about 60 more than i wanted to shell out (after vat and delivery)

just tried my brothers videoseven l22wd and it works on 720p and 1080i (via my hdfury box) so I know im not barking up the wrong tree ! Looks great in 720p too. Because of this im back on the £100 trail

Would getting a crt offer more flexibility with input signals?

I know everyone seems to avoid them like the plague these days but if you are only wanting it for a few months you could probably get a 21" for free if you look around .

thats the exact monitor i have my ps3 on i was hoping to run it on my pc monitor but it didnt work on dvi so i went out and bought one of the samsungs £120 it was then not sure how much they go for now

ordered the 20" samsung from my original post. After much reading it seems the best option for the money.

came down to a toss up in the end between a lg 22" and the samsung 20" (but which does do hdcp)

should arrive tuesday

the samsung arrived and im absolutely delighted with it, works great at all modes and even 1080p (although the panel is only 1050 deep)

very pleased and can recommend it incase anyone stumbles on this thread in the future.

yer i saw that one, was also considering an lg22" from comet (107 quid) and a few others

problem with the dabs value stuff is you really never know whats going to turn up, could be a real bargain or a real dog !!
