    Help HELP! FIREWIRE & VISTA

    Hi all,

I recently bought a PC With Vista on it.

I am trying to connect a Firewire DV cam to my new pc.

But when I connect the camera and turn it to the correct mode, Vista does not detect it!

I have the drivers installed, and it worked fine in XP

Any ideas what it could be?

    Thanks

    Its Home Premium 32bit

The thing thats bothering me is Windows isnt detecting so it cant be the drivers since its not even recognising that a device has been plugged in

Has the firewire card been installed correctly? Right click Computer, goto properties, then click device manager. This will show you what hardware is installed, if any have a yellow mark on them then they aren ot installed.

Try finding your firewire card in the list and right click, update driver. Failing that if it is a pre-build goto the manufacturers website looking for software downloads for that card, if it was a custom build find the product page for the card and look for downloads.

The PC I bought was a Packard Bell iMax

It all came preinstalled basically and I have done all the latest updates on it.

I will check what you said but from what I remember everything seemed to be ok

    there's ur problem lol.

Does sound like a messed firewire install or port is buggered

Or the camera itself maybe. Can you plug it in via USB?

This may not help but I had the same problem, changed the PCI slot of the firewire card on my motherboard once still it couldn't find it. tried a few drivers to no avail it even recognised the card in device manager but wouldn't see my camera. As a last resort I changed the position of the card on my motherboard restarted and it's worked a treat since then.
