Just wanted to know who people think are the best players in the world at this moment of time?

how about top 5, they can be in any position.

when i mean best footballers i mean the absolute best world class players on the planet. however much you are loyal to your team and want to say players like o'shea, kuyt, bendtner, kalou etc please refrain from it......

Ronaldo has no where near the touch of ronnyaldo, kaka or messi , but he's effective. and for the last 2 seasons Ronaldo has been the most effective player in the world, with Rio aswell check the stats with him in the team!!
But lets not forget hes not the REAL Ronaldo and never will be!!!

I think up till the end of the last season Ronaldo was untouchable as the best player in the world, but now Messi seems to have taken over, where as ronaldo isnt playing as well.

as for Kaka im not seeing much of him now, again quality player but hes not bringing his best game now, who knows with the rumours of man city, we might see him grace the premier league soon.

i would like to know best defenders and goalkeepers aswell, what are peoples opinions?

personally ferdinand is up there, terry, puyol, ramos, lahm, bosingwa

Right now its without any question at all Messi.

Forget all your biases and prejudices just take a look at the stats right now he's simply blowing everybody in the world away with ease in terms of sheer goals and assists.

Last year it was obviously Ronaldo but this year he isn't on form so its unlikely he will catch upto Messi now. If he gets his shit together I think he'll make top three along with Eto whoose also accumulated breath taking stats this year.

Agree totally DaMack. On current form there isn't many (and probably no) players in England who would go into my top 5. I have to be honest, I don't watch a lot of European football unless its Champions League vs an English club, and even then mainly only United. The sad thing for me as a United fan is seeing the current Premier League, Champions League and World Champions with possibly only 1 or 2 players on form. Even rock solid Ferdinand's inclusion would be debateable this year. The only player at United who I would say got close is Evra, possibly Carrick, but they are the kind of players who are totally undervalued outside of their club, mainly because of the positions in which they play. People can go on (not here!) about how great Pirlo is, but IMO Carrick pisses on him, United are a different side without him. And yes, I know we won 3-0 on Sunday without him!

Outside of England, all I can do is look at what other people are saying, and quite frankly what other people (i.e. journalists) say is often utter bullshit. Look at the crap Ballague writes, yet when he says Messi is amazing, why do we believe it? Now I've not seen Messi play once this season, but his goals and assists would suggest he's made that step up from last year, where he looked amazing but had little end product. Maybe I'll try and watch a Barca match this weekend to see him
