Default Sat Nav around the world trip

Hi, looking for a bit of advise. I'm heading on one of these round the world trips for 6 months in 3 weeks. I'll be hiring a car in California, and probably a camper van in NZ and Oz, also possibly a car in South Africa.

I reckon the car hire company's will charge a bomb to include a GPS, so is it worth getting a cheap tomtom now and loading it up full of hacked maps?

I've seen a cheap tomtom one v2 for £58. Thoughts?

Do I need a separate sd card for each map or can I put many onto one card?

Thanks for any advise,, I'm well excited but there is so much still to do and I'm not the most organised person.

Not sure what the max size card you can use is on a v2 One (I can use a 2gb in my Go500), but you can put many maps onto one card.
