    Default Unallocated space

not sure this belongs in here but i thought it was the most appropriate area.

i have a 8gb sony usb memory pen, when i look at it in windows it only has 3.7gb space, if i go into disc manager then it shows the stick as 3.7 PLUS 4gb unallocated space. if i right click the area showing the unallocated space then the option to format is greyed out.

i read that i could use partition magic to get to the unallocated space, so i have obtained said program BUT it only seems to work for C and D doesnt have an option to scan system or anything to look for drives!

how can i get to this unallocated space?

    appreciate any help guys!

are you able to just back up all the stuff off the drive. delete both partitions, full format the drive. copy stuff back to drive.

follow marcode's tips, but also don't forget to make 1 partition before you attempt to format it, unless it won't work..

you could also try the hp usb format utility if you get no joy with disk manager..

    thats right marcode

if i click on the drive in the top window, where it lists all the drives then the delete partition is greyed out.

if i go into the lower window and scroll to the stick then click on the window that has the (m) then i get a list of options like explore, format options etc, and the delete option is greyed out. if i then click on the unallocated side then i get only three options, partition, properties and help, however the partition option is greyed out!

have ahd the stick for a while now but have never got round to using it so taking it back is probably not an option!

OK I have managed it!! downloaded the HP format utility on the off chance it wasnt what i had already tried, ( i thought you meant HP boot utility) and it worked a treat, well after it kept telling me that the usb was in use by something when it actually wasnt, after a couple resets to make sure and it still doing it, i pulled it out and plugged it back in again and finally it did the format to its full capacity!

    cheers for your time guys!
