PSP replays at football matches

How cool is this? Just missed a good tackle/goal/whatever? Not a problem, just watch the replay on your PSP.

Reuters reports that football fans at Arsenal could be able to watch action replays and access match statistics on their PSPs from the end of the 2009-2010 season.

Arsenal's commercial director Adrian Ford said that a Sony-developed application would allow live streaming video, statistics and near-instant replays.

Many English football clubs in the Premier League and the Championship have big-screen replays of goals but personalised video would be something else entirely.

"This device will brings an extra dimension to the game with information and statistics," Sony's director of retail, transport and venues Eric Siereveld told Reuters.

He also said it could be used to link supporters together during the game. You have joined #Ultras!

"There are a few rights issues that we have to overcome but on the basis that we do that, we think it's a product we can offer to our fans within the next 18 months or so," he said.

Sounds great, but I support Chelsea and don't own a psp

The article doesn't say if people will be able to hire one at the ground or if it's just a bring your own along. If it is "bring your own psp" then I hope they've done their research into how many arsenal fans own them and more to the point how many fans are willing to bring them along to the game. It would seem stupid them doing all this work as it may just be 5 people looking at these replays/extra info.

I think it may have been better for them to create apps for Nokia S60 phones and iPhones. At least people will be bringing these along anyway and probably have a lot more users than PSPs.

Any skagheads that fancy mugging someone will just wait for an Arsenal game to finish, they'll be plenty of victims there waiting with PSPs in their pockets.
