    Cars Mileage stored in ecu

Hi and thanks in advance for any help.I have been told that when a car has had the mileage turned back that the original mileage will still be stored somewhere in the ecu and can be read easily with the right equipment. Is this true..

Yes many cars but not all. Typical ones are all VW & Audi, Porsche, Vauxhal and now Subarul.

as the information can be stored in many places, you would need to 'adjust' in those same places. afaik, it is possible to change the info in all locations to make it unnoticeable.

Exactly that, a word of warning Audi and Vauxhall are checking ECU these days. Currently only the 1.7 and 1.9 Diesel Vauxhall ECU's have mileage stored. All Audi's have mileage in ECU, Audi now can retrieve this. Additionally, mileage in VW & Audi is in the Gateway, but this cannot be checked by dealers at the moment.

Another thing is the dealer servce history. I know Vaux are registering the mileage on a central database, so any difference from it's previous visit in the wrong direction and they'll flag it up straight away.

the majority of vehicle makers have mileage data in the ecu ....my take on it is if they [dealers] want they could check ...

    Tip

    Tip

ALSO BEAR IN MIND THAT ANY OF LAST YEARS MOT CERTIFICATES WILL SHOW THE OLD MILEAGE AND CAN EASILY BE RETRIEVED BY A DEALER FROM THE DVLA ~ Thats why they bought that in to stop fraudulent C**ts robbing people!
