Photos Foggy Preston Docks - The Marina

Had to go into town today and seeing a bit of fog I took the camera with me and detoured past the marina at Preston Docklands.

First of two is a bit of colour popping of the danger sign/buoy. I wanted to give both the foreground subject (the sign) some attention for a focal point, but I also wanted to have you look and acknowledge the steel crane and gantry in the bacground, which deserves to be seen as well, as it is quite imposing when shrouded in fog.

Second one is of the moored boats on the marina, again well shrouded by the morning fog. The processing of this was first done in Lightroom using the antique script, and then a Tiffen diffusion filter and then once in Photoshop I added a touch of burning to just slightly darken the corners.

Love the first one the red really stands out with the processing. I love the docks and never seem to have my camera whenever I am there.

The second one has a very nostalgic look and feeling to it.

Two very good shots Paul. I fully agree that the crane is certainly imposing in the fog and you're right to ensure that we see that too

    Love those vivid reds though

I do like the 2nd shot although I'm not overly keen on the antique look on it. The quayside or whatever it is in the bottom left is a little distracting. I think I'd prefer it if it wasn't there however, if I'm not mistaken, I assume you were restricted in where you could stand in relation to the focal length you needed to get the boats in and had no choice? Or, did you deliberately include it in the shot?

It's certainly a very good shot and creates a sense of quiet (as is typical of fog) and possibly foreboding.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

@ Ian, the quayside I left in for two reasons: 1, it was there, and 2, if you hide it with your hand, the bottom of the image looks too empty. And there was the railings. I didn't fancy stepping through them cos if you fall in that water, chances are you ain't gonna climb back out.

Fair enough mate. I must admit I did cover it with my hand and still liked the image .

yeah, wise idea not to go beyond the railings
