Maybe for the Printer, but Win 7 has none of the Vista driver issues so far.do an image of your current setup and have a go.Its better than Vista by a Mile.

Still using the Beta version as my main OS. It's a lot further on than Windows Vista was at this stage.

I dont recommend anyone use it as a main OS. I decided to because if I have problems reinstalling should things go pear shaped, it's no biggy.

    My system - AMD X64 5000+, 2GB

I've installed it to both my kids machines too. Using AMD Athlon 1400 with 512Mb & AMD Athlon 2000 with 1GB. Both run better with this than XP IMO.

A 2.8GHz chip with 2GB of RAM is enough to keep Win 7 happy, but I get the distinct impression you are not ready for a beta

All I would say is keep the Vista drivers for your hardware to hand, just in case Win 7 can't get something working.

Well thats the first thing you need to learn,as if you format and use win 7 without one, there is no way back to what you have now.

Maybe you are better off leaving it for now until its final release, and then you can backup your stuff and use it as the main OS.

All the applications i use on my pc Iv'e got on usb sticks to just re-install anyway! I think it's just because im hearing all the talk of windows 7 & I'm just bored of looking at XP , But I don't want to use the transformation packs to change the look of it and slow down my system!

Go for it, wipe your system, install Windows 7.

    Then...

Realise it's only a Beta and has issues (albeit minor). Then you come back to XP when your computer shuts down and error's out with I/O errors.

Oh, wait, thats what I did.

Voice of experience - It's not worth it yet, Windows 7 is great, but not worth upgrading til at least the RC is released.

Quick question, are you running XP 64 or 32.
Both 64 and 32 bit Win 7 are available, but you would need to install the one for the Apps you already use.
Or look for the 64 bit versions.

That is your experience and perhaps something to do with your unique hardware/software combo. Others like me have had it run pretty flawlessly for quite some time. Have it on 3 machines, one heavily used. I still have a dual boot into XP as certain software packages don't run on windows 7 yet (Matlab / Origin) but overall it runs well, and to answer the question v well on low spec machines. Using it on a Atom based netbook, very responsive.

If all the Apps you use now are 32 bit, then you are going to want them in 64 bit if you use 64 bit win 7.
As for errors in win 7 ive not had any unsolvable problems yet,but one or two glitches that hopefully wont be there in the final build,But its MS so who knows.
1 was the missing start menu, happened once and has never happened again, and i have no idea why it did it,as a Reboot fixed it out.

So why then, when I ran it for almost a fortnight would it all of a sudden shutdown. Then not reboot, even though nothing has changed? Although coulda been Windows Update without me knowing I guess?!

I would like to go back to Windows 7, but after that, I thought it killed my HD and reloaded XP without issue.

    My setup is this
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+, 2GB RAM, Seagate SATA 500GB HD with a Sony DVD-RW (Firmware updated to newest - 2007).

No other devices were really in the mix, it just said I have an I/0 error. This could be caused by an external or USB device being removed blah blah blah.

Had me (and Mr Google) stumped!

i have to say that since installing windows 7 as my main OS that i really havent had ANY problems so far to be honest, i really like it a lot and xp would seem weird now after this, im another one who might just actually buy this when its out.

Runs like a dream on my pc and its nothing special

    AMD dual core 5600+
    3 gig of geil ram
    Radeon X1950 Pro
500gig samsung spinpoint sata 2 Hard Drive

ive also read that people run it fine on lower spec machines and lower spec laptops, which is a big plus

Good good. Have you tried just plugging it in first, W7 comes with alot of drivers. Installed my two Brother printers without me having to find any drivers for them, one of the printers being 10 years old!
