Best external drive to get and where from

unfortunatly our pc has finally died so down to 2 laptops
but my matshitia drive doesn't support setting the booktype so now in the market for a decent external writer for backups of my originals.

could some kind sole(s) tell me whats best and where to get it pls
had a look at some but would be better coming from someone one here that has that particular external writer that way i know we get it right 1st time.

was going to but thought it was more 360 orientated and pref want someone with a 360 who has an external writer so more chance in here
