what about reflashing it m8 !!! just a suggestion
http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/7113.htm
this sight might help u m8
not sure how i would flash it mate
i think the passy is stored in an eeprom of somekind os spi chip which is totally independant of the bios chip
clever i know
im sure i can bust it if i strip the laptop down but its only come in for a fresh install :S lol
ill check out this other site mate thanks
dave
nahh leo nothign on that site thanks anyways
dave
if it's only come in for a fresh install..surely you have contact details for the owner who should know his/her own password...why would you be prepared to go to lengths like replacing an spi?
it was booting up just fine
but not from cdrom first
so thought to make things a little easier n faster id clear the cmos
but made thigns worse now as its gone power on password :S
there is only 1 other eeprom on the board, which is a 93c46, but i believe this is the ethernet bios chip
clearing this eeprom did not wipe the pasword
thanks
dave
ok i sorted this guys
i took out eh bios chip
read it and used phoenix bios tools on teh dump
teh passy was set to be on on boot up
i just changed the settings to not have it there and saved new bios
programmed to a good old MX flash chip n away it goes
fair enough the password is still there
but its not my laptops and its all grafting again now
thanks for any pointers
dave
