Virus/Trojans on a mates PC, help please!

Had a quick look at a mates PC today, he can't get onto Windows Update, or run his installed antivirus, or any online antivirus, and IE redirects him to strange websites every time he tries to search for anything!

Ran Avira from the UBCD, which finds 3 virus/trojan signatures, but doesn't delete them unfortunately!

Is there an up to date USB pen antivirus anywhere, or has anyone got any other ideas on how to help him please? Cheers.

Malwarebytes got rid of the tricky ones for me and a few others I know. Cant you drop the drive into another PC with malwarebytes installed & scan that way?

I'll try installing it on his machine first and see if it will run, if not, I'll whip the drive out, cheers.
