Default My First ever Jumping Spider

Well, I managed to capture this little critter earlier today. After tiring itself out in a glass, I finally managed to get it to strike a pose.

Firstly, the size of this little monster was about a full length of 5mm and a head width of around 1mm so this gives you an idea of how small it is. I believe they grow to 10mm so this one is a small one.

Anyway, I was shooting in low light and doing my best - Click the images to expand

These were taken in a large mug

    Focal Length: 105.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.0080 s (1/125)
    Aperture: f/11.0, ISO equiv: 100

    Focal Length: 105.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.017 s (1/60)
    Aperture: f/4.5, ISO equiv: 800

This one was taken with the Nifty Fifty, held reversed over the front of the 105 Macro - The DoF is extremely shallow. In the mm's

    Focal Length: 105.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.0080 s (1/125)
    Aperture: f/11, ISO equiv: 100

For these ones, I let him roam around on a burgandy rug (looks different colour due to the flash)

    Focal Length: 105.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.010 s (1/100)
    Aperture: f/8.0, ISO equiv: 800

Please sir, can I have some more

    Focal Length: 105.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.010 s (1/100)
    Aperture: f/8.0, ISO equiv: 800

And again, with the 50mm lens reversed in front of the 105

    Focal Length: 105.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.010 s (1/100)
    Aperture: f/8.0, ISO equiv: 800

Really likie the 2nd one in the mug there dp. Looks like you are having fun with that lens The detail picked up in 'Please sir' is great, although I feel the last one loses a little something with such a shallow dof.

    Cheers Ka$h

Well, I've had the lens for a while but never found a jumper so I was pleased. hehe.

As for the ones with Shallow Dof. yeah unfortunately, there's not much I can to increase it when using the 50 reversed. Still, it allows me to get those 0.5mm eyes looking rather larger

Great shots and some fantastic detail.

I like no.2 but reckon you should crop it a bit tighter.
"Please sir" is also well captured but what would set many of them off even more imo, would be something that gives it a bit of perspective, ie a coin or something familiar in the shot somehow.

Cheers MML. Putting something else in the shot would be a good idea. However, you can see the fibres of the rug as some kind of guide

I'll remember for next time though

very nice clear shots ,i heard somewhere if you put these things in the fridge or any insects they sleep for a while until they heat up ,then you can place the little bugger anywhere.

Well, I'd let him go and put him in a flower pot near a window... he was still there a couple of night back so I got a size perspective shot. The coin on the rung is a 5 pence piece (and what looks like one of the dogs hairs)

I knew they were small, but against that 5p :O

Just shows the level of detail you can pick up with the right equipment
