    Help best way forward

    Hi,

I have an older 360 (non hdmi hitatchi drive i think by the tray shape).

I bought it second hand already flashed, used it a fair bit at the time but then it begain to gather dust. Recently decided to start using it agian but have found a couple of times it has had dirty disk errors on games that used to play ok so think they dvd drive maybe on the way out.

I did play it on live when i first had it but didnt get banned and stopped playing when the banning started (so think my serial will be ok?)

question is what is the best way to move forward?

If the drive is going should I bother flashing it up to 1.51? If I did could I get the larger hd and run the games off the hard drive?

Should I just buy a new core/arcade and flash that - what is the state of playing flashing brand new units?

should I look to buy a new dvd-rom drive and flash that?

what are thoughts on the best way forward?

edit: I currently have none of the kit needed to flash if I were to need any pointers appreciated.

    cheers

Id just give it a lens clean and possibly a pot tweak....see if you can improve it without costing you anything.

Best way forward depends on budget tbh. I'm sure a local member to you that can flash would help you out if you bought a new machine (Liteon will need a probe etc. It is worth flashing if you are playing latest games, if you are not to bothered on new titles but like live then at least you want 1.5 (so might as well go to 1.51) Whilst apart to flash, give the drive a clean and go that way on (zero cost) if all else fails, buy a new one and flash that (My elite lasted about an hour before being dismantled!)

As for flash kit, you will need at least a Via6421 SATA port (ebay) then to make life easy, you could buy a CK3 kit from shopneo for hooking it up although this is not essential. If you were to buy new and want to flash, you will need the 6421 & the CK3 Pro with Probe Bundle from shopneo

cheers for the info gents, looks like I might try to flash it up to 1.51 and seeing how the drive holds out.

If I managed to get one of the 120gb drives and flashed to 1.51 I'd still be able to play games off the HD? (saving the ropey dvd drive)

    cheers
