    Attention Any Excel Experts here?

This is my situation and i have no experience with excel (apart from the obvious basics and sum functions)

i have a list of materials and there price per square metre.

i want to make a seperate sheet on the same .xls file, this is to basically calculate cost prices for materials.

I need to select the material type from a drop down, which then inputs the per metre square price in the next cell, i then need a cell to input the width and another cell to input the height, then the next cell calculates the area of material and finally a price cell at the bottom which calculates the cost by using the area x the price per square metre.

Can this be done? it seems pretty staright forward and i have seen excel to alot more cooler things, just dont know where to start>?!

can anyone help a guy out

    Cheers,
    Jacko

Try the attached, eaier than explaining it, but you'll see all the function when you go in.

Sorry the list creation probably needs expanding a little.

Enter the following data into the correct cells on Sheet 1

    B2 - Material 1
    B3 - Material 2
    etc

    Drag select cells B2 - B* on Sheet 1.

Type "Materials" (no quotes) in the Name Box and press the ENTER key on the keyboard.

Click on the Sheet tab for Sheet 2.

Click on cell B3 - the location where the results are shown.

    Click on the Data menu

    Click on the Validation option.

Click on Settings tab in the dialog box.

From the Allow menu choose List.

Type "=Materials" (no quotes) on the Source line in the dialog box.

Click OK in the dialog box.

A down arrow should appear next to cell B3.
