Apple play.com now selling simfree iphones

    http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4...e/Product.html

not cheap (but neither are most sim free mobiles)

first big retailer that i've seen doing them. They risk an embargo from apple on their other products i would think.

"It is not unlocked from a UK or European network and is available due to EU legislation ensuring the sale of sim free mobile phones"

Would be cheaper to get a pay as you go iPhone from o2 and get the dev team 'yellowsn0w' unlock on it though.

it would danny although you cant currently buy a phone which is unlockable. The current firmware doesnt work with yellowsn0w (yet). I ended up paying roughly the same as a brand new payg one for a 3 month old one which was unlockable. I'd never actually pay £549 but its really appealing not to have to worry about updates etc.

Your only hope is to find a store with old stock, although my friend who works in an apple store said that a few weeks back, their whole stock was uplifted and replaced by apple - probably removing their older firmware ones

you NEED to have baseband software version 02.28.00 for yellowsn0w.

The baseband software which is installed with the phone firmware 2.2.1 is 02.30.00 by default although you can do some jiggery pokery to get 2.2.1 with the old firmware.

    02.30.00 cannot be downgraded
