What chip?

Is there any way of telling what chip is in your Wii?
I got mine Chipped when they first came out in a mod shop, the shop is no longer open.
I cant play mario kart, but all the others i've tried work if that is any help.

not really, the only way to be sure is to open it and then if its a clone or pic you wont be any wiser

you may be able to get a rough idea from what you paid for it, early chips (first generation) were quite expensive so the cost of the modding may have reflected that. The modder could have just shoved in any old chip and charged you a premium though.

Before you open it, try getting the wiikey update disk, that was the most popular chip in the early days. If that doesnt work, open her up.
