    Photos Lone Tree...C+C please...

    Hi...

Spent the Weekend in The New Forest - Took this shot near New Milton...

I recently replaced my 30d and 17-85mm with a 50d and the tamron 18-270mm VC - which is very good...anyway onto the picture...

Basically cloned out some sheep and converted to B+W with a high contrast red filter...

I personally think this one of the best photo's I have ever taken - but C+C welcomeso maybe next time I could improve it even more....

It's a nice one, but for me my eyes are attracted to the clouds at the top rather than the tree.

    Is that what you intended?

    Thanks for input...

I'd definitely crop out some of the area at the top, as nitelife said, your drawn to the clouds as much as the tree really. I'd have probably gone for a landscape not portrait shot and left the tree to the side of more empty space, at the moment it looks a bit cramped in the frame as well tbh. I'd try to sharpen it up with the unsharpen tool (or whatever equivelant is in your photo package) as well. And I find that if you use the clone stamp to remove something, a quick brush with the heal tool works wonders for removing the traces of cloning.

But it's not a bad image, in the portrait mode it's well composed, positioned nicely, just think it'd work better (although not sure what's off-frame of coruse) in landscape, and perhaps leaving a sheep in there for us Welsh

Its a nice shot but like the others said, would be cool with a landscape shaped crop instead especially with the shadow of the tree

I agree with the comments regarding the orientation of the shot. A Landscape version would have been more appealing.

Definitely needs less clouds. The thing about lone trees is to think simplicity and have it as the main focal point of the image. Although in this image, yours is the main focal point, the eye is drawn up to those big fluffy clouds which are shouting "MR BLUE SKY" (great ELO song I might add), but this is in B/W which, would be more impacting with less background detail.

This might have worked more with a longer exposure to run those clouds into each other a bit.

Still, it is a nice image. Sharpen it a bit and it'll be better.

It's not a bad image but like Belial and dpSparhawk I think a landscape crop or even a nice widescreen version would work so much better. The cloudy sky above distracts from your main focal point which is not good. I was trying to shoe a song title in like Neo but could only come up with Little Fluffy Clouds and they ain't.

I think black and white landscape works well sometimes and this is one of them. A very nice conversion but the crop is wrong diddy wrong wrong in my opinion.

Also why the switch from 30D to 50D??? And why is this image posted in tif format?

Its not a B&W for me, but I applaud the idea. I think colour would be better, though not seeing a colour version, I could be wrong.

Echo comments above re: crop too.

Oh, and Carl, don't you have them portable sheep still for when you work in the city?

    Heheh.

Thanks for C+C guys as always - I have learned alot from this forum over the past 18 months...I really appreciate it...

Basically to the left of the tree is a smaller completely dead tree then a house I will be back down that area again in a couple of week - I will re-shoot it...

Moved to the 50d - Purely because - I liked the live view mode - off to Scotland shortly and had a bit of spare cash...in Tif format because it was late I was tired and photoshop would not save it in Jpeg for some reason lol...

    Cheers

    Ian

The reason you couldn't save in Jpeg was most "probably" because it was a 16bit image.

Go to Image > Mode > change to 8 bit and it should let you save as a Jpeg.

    lol.

Little Fuffy Clouds - "What were the skies like when you were younger?" Not listened to that for years, brings back some fantastic memories of chemically induced weekends that i've long since left behind. cheers Wingnut - Spotify here I come.

Any way back on topic, I have to agree with everyone here ise, i'd love to see the colour version as the blue ky could like very striking, plus landscape would be better.
