Need help with mod

Basically, a friend of mine has given me his Elite and asked me to mod it to play backups. Can anyone point in the right direction to get started? I have a vague idea of what's going on but I don't know where to start.

first identify the drive type (google "xbox 360 drive trays"), then read either the Jungleflasher guide, or textbook's buide.
