Default Daylight robbery at the post office!!

So I changed some GBP into Euros recenty, and paid 94p for each Euro. Pretty bad as it is, but due to the weak pound I guess.

Go in today with 80 Euros to change them back, and only got 80p back for each Euro!! I got £64 for the 80e.

I know that changing money back always gives a less favourable rate, but blimey I feel like they're taking the piss. Just glad I didn't have a couple of hundred left over!

It's not the money it's the principle....robbing bastards.

Always remember going to Spain on a ferry for a day trip and buying £100 worth or Euro's. Got there and bugger all was open so me and the misses just grabbed a coffee each.

A few hours later got back on the boat and exchanged the remaining Euro's back to pounds and the 2 coffee's cost us £30.00.

Ahhhhhhhh dont buy a coffee in Spain

I almost never take any euros when i go to europe, apart from a little pocket money for coffees/snacks en route. (£50 worth or so) as I get a better exchange rate withdrawing them directly from an atm over there (nationwide don't charge extras). I just get what I need when I'm there.

that policy has changed. i got a letter in a while ago saying they now charge people for that. surprising cos its a massive reason a lot of people join them

    no mate, they don't

They brought charging for purchases made outside of europe this month but since we are talking about euros this doesnt apply.

Bummer thats the only reason I have a nationwide account, dump the cash in there before going away and spend it as I need it, if I empty the account use their credit card. If they are going to be chargeing to use it I may aswell just use my daily account as it will work out the same with their fee. I usually travel outside of Europe and looking at the list all the places I want to go they will charge the fee.

Yep never take cash on holiday been using ATM for years, but since Nationwide changed their policies you have to be more careful where you use your card...

Places like Spain that depend on the UK for a lot of tourism are going to struggle this year. A lot of brits won't go, and if they do they won't spend as much.

Where as before you could go and buy something for 2 or 3 Euros you would think, it only just over a quid, now it's actually 2 or 3 quid. Things like ice creams, coffees, stuff for kids suddenly it's all now very expensive.
