    Default Video / DVD edit

I need some software to allow me to edit a DVD that i have. Its a DVD of a 4D baby scan but i need to blank out the date at the top right of the screen. Is there anything out there that will do this? Alternativelty is there any software that will allow me to cut the top off the DVD so i can remove all the info relating to the scan date, time etc...

    Thanks

    Rob

    Adobe Premiere Pro

Your some knowledge as it's bit of a meaty app.

You might be able to find something that will let trim or crop the video and then just save the changes.

    Is there sound as well?
Premiere doesnt really like editing VOB files (DVD video files) and can be fussy. you would need to seperate the audio and video to do the edit.

If its something you dont mind other people seeing and can upload the vob file you want edited somewhere I can do the edit for you.

I will have a go at editing it myself first. Its a4D scan like the ones in the link but its 30 minutes long and does have audio (only background music)

We needed to edit the date on the dvd as my wife booked the day off work (Friday) for the scan and we went on the Sunday to get it done. lol. A few people at work wanted to see it and she was a bit worried that her boss would see the date.

If i was able to make the date box all black, that would be fine as it would just look like a blank box.

I might be best ocnverting the dvd to an avi file, messing baout with it and them converting back to DVD.

I will let you know how i get on in a few days time. The other problem is that its around 2 - 2.5 gb in size, so doubt i can upload it anywhere

Play the video file on an LCD screen (to avoid the scrolling lines when filming).

Setup a digital camera to the position you want and then just film the LCD screen. Even a camera phone (N95 for example) is ample.

A rookie way to do it but I can't imagine quality is that amazing to start with?

In premiere its quiet straight forward to do, simplest way to get the vob in premiere is with a plugin called mainconcept mpeg pro, this is not yet compatible with CS4 though (which is a bit of a pain for me!)
The other option is to the VOB file extension to MPG -- then import the file into Windows Movie Maker and export it as a DV AVI file. The DV AVI file can then be imported into Premiere for editing.
Note the audio may mess up using these methods because premiere cannot read AC3 which is what most dvd's use.
However if it is just backing music you can add your own, or you can extract the music seperately from the vob files.

Then simply create a photoshop document image size 720x576. create a layer in the document and add the black box where you want it. save the file as a photoshop psd file.

In premiere double click the project panel (top left), select your vob/mpg files (which ever method above you chose), also select your photoshop psd file, and your music if using different music.
Drag the vob/mpg files in the time line labelled "Video 1", if using audio drag the audio into "Audio 1" and finally drag the psd file into "Video 2". There may be a message about how you want premiere to handle the layers, leave them layered. Can't remember the exact question and cant check this second.

    That should be it.

No simply go to file/export and choose how you wish to export the movie.
