Russ, I would heartily recommend the Paul McKenna book/CD entitled "I can make you slim". Since he's a head guy, he really gets to the deep seated reasons why we overeat and dispels the reasoning that some of us are just born fat or have slow metabolisms. Its mainly common sense stuff like only eating when you're hungry, eating what you feel for (even if its icecream/chocolate), savouring every mouthful and then putting down the knife and fork once you're full. Once you learn to be in harmony with your body, you will find your body shape changes to what it was naturally programmed to be.

Well, I've done it now, switched from LighterLife to "The Cambridge Diet"

There is so much more choice on this one reather than the LL one and I'm happier doing it now as well. There's no poxy condensending classes to go to with their "counselling" and the woman who runs it is quite fit too which is always a bonus!!

If you are going to go on one, make it the Cambridge one. Much easier. Next weigh in is Thursday evening for me.

Well, weighed in last night, and I've lost 7 and a half pounds in the last week, thats 1 stone 7 1/2 in two and a half weeks, well on my way to splitting two stone in the first four weeks, which is the best anyone can expect apparently.

I've also lost 4 inches off my waist in two and half weeks. Good times.

Anyone who has mentioned considering this diet. Think about the big picture. 8 weeks isn't that long, its tough at first but after the first say...1 and a half weeks, the hunger pretty much goes away. The Cambridge Diet is the one to go for though, the stuff is higher quality than Lighterlife, tastes better, more variety, and the lighterlife counselling sessions that they make you go to are proper rubbish!

The Cambridge one is approx. £45-50 a week depending on what you have, but you're not that big are you? You might be best on the sole source plus one...

Have a looksie at their website.

Russ, silly question, what was your diet like before you started? fast food, typical meals, drink intake etc?

Mine typically is crap, I eat way too much junk and breads, drink daily and have very little exercise and i just wanted to gauge where I might benefit from this diet if at all.

    Oh, and well done btw

My diet wasn't bad at all really. I ate reasonably healthy meals, and by healthy I made sure anything i bought was around 4g of fat per 100g or less, but I did drink an awful lot of things like coke, fanta and the like. Plus boozing once or twice a week, but only about 10-12 pints in total. I did very little or no exercise.

    An average day was:

Breakfast: Big bowl of porridge oats (with golden syrup, honey or strawberry sauce in sometimes)
Lunch: 2 barms from local butty shop, usually turkey or ham with lettuce and onion, no mayo. Sometimes i'd have sliced hard boiled egg on the ham barm, plus a bag of crisps and sometimes a soup as well.
Dinner: Whatever we were having I'd have a portion nearly twice the size of the wifes, followed by a muller-rice or similar.
Supper: A bag of low-fat crisp type things, snack-a-jacks or similar.

Drinks were pop, or fruit juice.

I think it was the portion sizes that were the problem, I didn't have a lot to drink booze-wise, probably 10-12 pints a week, over two or 3 nights so nothing too major.

I don't get weighed again now for 2 weeks. The lass is on holiday for a week, so I'll report back in 2 weeks time

Try drinking spirits, instead of 3-4 beers have 4 measures of scotch or vodka. If you need a mixer then use a diet drink. It's not a lifestyle change but you are taking much less empty calories (I tried to do this as an experiment for a while but ended up getting really pissed then breaking out the beers).

How are you feeling about it Russ?

I feel fine about it, i'm lighter by 1stone 10and a half in just over 3 weeks. That kind of loss takes about 6 months on other diets. I'd recommend it.
