Default Mobile Broadband - your views.

The thing that bothers me about the way they sell the mobile broadband is that as if its the perfect replacement!

Its like a 2nd generation service, like it was when 512kbps was on its way out and the 1mb services were being touted at a premium, Pings are terrible too and i cant see them ever getting any better, The high ping will be mobile broadbands stick in the mud without a doubt. Its fine having the page load quick but its the time it takes for the instruction to be sent and received back and we all know that a high ping service loses customers and gets more complaints.

But they will milk it for what its worth, i think the next thing we will see will be mobile phone contract/broadband dongle bundles.

A lot more antenna sharing will happen as well and the only way to reduce the ping will be base stations popping up a lot more nearer highly populated areas, a lot of the companies may now see having a base station situated in the middle of a field on the outskirts as a low earner.

Maybe we will see a better direct to home solution (external antenna on outside wall to a internal wireless network)

Anyone thought about a making a hardwired antenna version for use at home to see if it gives faster speeds and lower pings - like a pci wireless card with antenna?

Mobile broadband will never be a replacement to fixed line broadband. It will just be something we have in addition to our fixed lines. It is no way near fast enough and open enough to replace our fixed lines. By open I mean ports, file sharing, ssl newsgroups etc are all things I couldn't do on my mobile broadband.
