I hate BT!

I've recently found out, My exchange is 4.8KM away as the crow flies, yet there are two under 3KM away! The nearest one can give us 6MBPS not the cruddy 0.2 we are on at the moment! Is there anyway to ask BT to change our exchange? This is bloody ridiculous!

I don't think you can, I very much doubt they would run a wire from a different exchange unless you were willing to foot the bill. Also are the other 2 exchanges LLUd because they'll need to be for o2?

I was very suprised when my exchange was showing as having Be/o2 and being that it's across the road from me I get a full 24MB and have done for about 2 years now

We not on o2, Thats my internet speed (0.2mbps). And honestly, Ill pay the bill, to my house, to the area they cover is 10 meters away. I will pay for that ten meters of cable!

I had a BT line and max speed was 1.5mb. They said that was the best they could get however my neighbour got 16mb with Bethere.com so I tried it out. Worked out cheaper, used same phone line and I get 16mb all day every day.

Mate had a prob on sky as he was only getting around 1 and 1.5. He was closer to the exchange than I was and I'm getting 3.5-4. Sky sent a new box and filters, however he contacted BT and they replaced the faceplate and he now gets 4-5meg, he also had to disconnect an line extension wired into the box.

I've tried everything . I've got new filters, new faceplates, Everything. Speed is soo slow! 120KBPS/Download on Mobile Broadband, but a tenner for 1GB, I dont think so. :/

you have taken the ringer out of the phone socket? if your with BT, you using a home hub, if so what version?

been having the same problems even after buying an iplate no better speed switching to TalkTalk not to sure about the speed increase but its half the price for 80gig a month with phone BT will soon be gone

I haven't got a ringer wire, House is too new . And I dont use the homehub anymore, due its rubbishness.

You will not get moved to a different exchange no matter what. The only way they will do that is if you buy a service where there is no capacity at your existing exchange. This used to work with the old ISDN lines (Got it done myself a few times). Other than that complain like a motherf***cker to BT that your telephone calls drop out often and pray they will just send a nice engineer around. Problem with this is that if they don't find a fault they will stitch you for the callout charges.

Cooleo first of all I think you need to chill at sit back and look at all the possibilities here..

If indeed you are 4.8km from the exchange you are connected to then chances are your cable distance is far higher, try taking a drive from your house to the exchange your connected to and see what the distance is on the trip indicator you might have a cable distance that is barley serviceable with adsl

Generally the cables back to the exchange run along the roads like most other utilities it is possible the the exchange that is 3km away is on the other side of a park and farm land and the cable distance is 6km

You mention other exchanges that are closer if this is the case their are technical reason why you cannot be moved

1. Geographical numbers cannot be moved between exchanges
2. Your local green box may not even be cabled to the other exchanges

I was once involved with a project where a call centre had to have two backup fibre based lines from different exchanges i think the bill was in the £100k region.
