    Photos Eyes of a fly

Well, I think it is one of them biting ones, but it was sat on the garden fence, occasionally washing itself. The wind kept moving the fence panel but at least the rain had subsided. Still reaonably dull and overcast though, so popped it up to ISO 800 and ran NR afterwards. Used 3 tubes on the Sigma to get in closer.

Made me wonder afterwards too if the vision gets impaired on flies cos if you look at the eyes you can see there is some sort of damage, and low down on it's right eye (left as we see it) there is something actually on the surface...

    C&C as always allowed.

Fantastic clarity and dof as usual. See what you mean about the eye. Probably doesn't make that much of a difference with all the "redundancy" they've got.

    Wow!

Erm... stupid Q time again. You refer to 3 tubes, what do you mean. I have seen this before and just accepted what you wrote without actually knowing what you were referring to.

An extension tube is an accessory for cameras with interchangeable lenses, used primarily for macro photography. The tube contains no optical elements; its sole purpose is to move the lens farther from the film or digital sensor. The farther away the lens is, the closer the focus, the greater the magnification, and also the greater the loss of light (requiring a longer exposure time). Lenses classically focus closer than infinity by moving all optical elements farther from the film or sensor; an extension tube simply imposes this movement.

Yeah, great detail for something so small. I personally don';t know how you manage to find the time to quickly assemble tubes, Lens and then take the shot. I had a web with about 150-200 small spiders on my shed last week. By the time I nipped in, pulled the camera out of the bag they had all gone!

Further stupid Q's, you say 3 tubes, are they all the same size and what size are they?

tube sets consist of different length tubes, depending on the extension length you want, you assemble the tubes to the desired length.

basically a set of spacers of differing sizes.

    The extension tubes are

13mm, 21mm, and 31mm and can be combined into 8 configurations.
