Double Click the Install Icon on the Desktop
Select your language then click 'Forward'
Now choose the location nearest to you and click 'Forward'
The Installer should choose the correct keyboard layout for your setup, but you can change and test if necessary.
Once you are happy with the selection click 'Forward'
You will now need to decide where you want to install Ubuntu.
Ubuntu will detect any other OS's on your HD and will give recommendations on how it thinks you should partition the disks.
Most of the time the recommended set-up is spot on.
If you are going to dual boot, make sure you have backed up all your data first.
I've never had a problem with this, but there is a first time for everything!
Now I am going to ignore Ubuntu's recommendation and will choose to use the entire disk (I'm wiping over an existing install and I've backed up all my data. I am not dual booting! If you are
DO NOT USE THIS OPTION!)
Once you are happy with the partitioning setup click 'Forward'
Fill in your user information, then click 'Forward'
Note if you do not use a STRONG password the setup will warn you.
You will now see a summary of your install options. If you are happy click 'Install' otherwise click 'Back' and make any changes as necessary.
The install will now start writing to disk:
Whilst the install is running you can run other applications:
Once the install is complete click'Restart Now' to reboot your machine:
Your CD should eject, and you will be prompted to remove it:
Once Ubuntu has loaded you will be presented with the login screen:
Enter your username and password:
The default desktop will now load:
