all routers come with hardware firewalls... no need for a software firewall

You could just use the router firewall but I would (and do) use both, both have their own benefits and using both they complement each other.

Use windows firewall, it works fine.

I prefer to have a software firewall too so that I can monitor outbound connections. It will alert you of any potential 'nasties' you may have downloaded accidently that are trying to connect the outside world.
    I use comodo firewall free.

Errrr... glad you don't run my network...

As ZX7R has said, you need a combination of both to properly secure your system.

Router firewall and windows firewall is more than enough protection from the outside world... Just don't let the outside world get in by installing dodgy programs or activex controls....

I had Comodo (on my Vista 64bit system) but it started causing issues. Before that I had Online Armour when I had XP, that was sweet but it wasn't compatible with Vista 64.

I'm now using Outpost Firewall which is not doing a bad job at all.

    Online Armour - http://www.tallemu.com/product_overview.html

    Outpost Firewall - http://free.agnitum.com/

As previously mentioned, a router firewall won't monitor outgoing connections so IMO you need both.
